The Oberpreyhof winery in Kaltern/Caldaro on the South Tyrolean Wine Road is a family agricultural business, which has been owned by the Seppi family since 1885. The vineyards are situated in the areas of Prey, Barleith and Lavason. The south-facing slopes, mild climate and large temperature fluctuations between hot days and cool nights make for excellent vintages of wines: Vernatsch, Kalterer See, Cabernet Sauvignon and Lagrein, as well as Chardonney and Goldmuskateller. The family's principle is to maintain the methods of their ancestors and to continue to pass them on to the next generation. Therefore, they have decided to work entirely without herbicides, feeling that the best protection for vines is good knowledge about the composition of the soil, the area and the climatic conditions. In addition, they grow local, autochthonous vines which have a long tradition. After planned restoration of the farm is completed, they will also offer apartments for holidays on a wine farm.
