Wine has been pressed since 1592 at the ancient vineyard estate "Popphof" in Marling/Marlengo, and the estate has been the property of the Menz family since 1722. In times past, the wine was sold "openly"; they started bottling fine wine only about a hundred years ago. The label created at that time and still in use is a symbol of this long tradition. The soil with slate and clay in the Merano valley provides wines of great elegance. Andreas Menz, proprietor and cellarer at Popphof in Marling/Marlengo, dedicates himself with great commitment to the vine-grower profession. Grapes for premium-quality award-winning red and white wines thrive on a vineyard area of about four hectares. About 25,000 bottles of Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon, Goldmuskateller, Rosé, Meraner (Vernatsch), Lagrein and Merlot are produced every year. True to our wine-grower credo: "Attentive work in the vineyard is the prime condition for a noble wine."
